Energy-generating tubes

August 2010 – Moerdijk 2, a new power station that will, in future, supply half a million homes with electricity is under construction in Moerdijk. This new facility that will generate electricity using a combined gas and steam turbine is scheduled for commissioning at the end of 2011. De Boer Buizen supplied tubular piles for the foundations with diameters of 355.6 and 406.4 mm.

On patrol on the open sea

August 2010 – De Boer Staal’s part in the construction of four patrol vessels for the Royal Netherlands Navy was to supply Grade D and DH36 sheet steel, and DH36 Holland sections. These patrol vessels are deployed for the coastguard and maritime safety work within Dutch territorial waters. Each vessel is 108 metres long, 16 metres wide and can accommodate a crew of fifty. In addition, there is space for 40 passengers such as a medical team, and capacity for up to 100 people in need of assistance.

Development of Entrepot marina

June 2010 – To boost the economy, employment, tourism and the leisure sector in Zeeburg, a marina is being developed in the Entrepot Wharf in Amsterdam. For the foundations of the jetties, De Boer Staal has delivered tubular piles (grade X60) with rounded tops. De Boer Snijbedrijf cut the tops to size.

NEW SHEARING MACHINE FOR A GREAT CUT

May 2010 – After many years of faithful service, two old three-metre shearing machines have been replaced by a 30-ton machine designed specially for De Boer Staal. The new shearing machine can cut sheet steel up to 3 metres wide and 20 mm thick.

Certification as well as surplus quality

March 2010 – De Boer Staal has acquired a good reputation as a supplier of steel pipes in surplus quality. But more and more clients are being asked by their clients to use certified materials. In response, De Boer Staal has extended its range to include new 2.1, 2.2 and 3.1 steel pipes certified under EN 10219-2.

De Boer delivers steel for offshore vessel

February 2010 – De Boer Staal has supplied profiles and “rub rails”, fenders made from sheet steel, for the construction of an offshore ship. The ship will be used for inspection, maintenance and repair work on offshore installations, but also for hoisting and diving work in the Gulf of Mexico.

Verdi goes to Kazakhstan

December 2009 – Within four months, the hull of an inland ship was transformed into the offshore accommodation ship “Verdi” for 320 people. Some of the accommodation was built in the hold; the modules with the cabins are located on deck. The ship is now moored in the Caspian Sea, where it provides shelter for the workforce from an oil platform. De Boer Staal supplied steel plating and Holland profiles, Grade A ship quality, for this vessel.

Tubes for Aqua Grader

December 2009 – Steel tubes are used for the manufacture of high-grade and innovative washing and grading machines for the agricultural sector and the recycling industry. De Boer Staal has been supplying 508 mm steel tubes for the "Aqua Grader" for many years. This is the Rolls Royce of graders for lily bulbs. The longitudinally welded steel tubes are cut to size and powder coated. De Boer Staal also supplies the accompanying bends and welding flanges.

Transporting transformers

October 2009 – A new high-voltage station is being built near Bleiswijk. Once it is in place, it will link the Northern and Southern Circuits of the new high-voltage link that will supply electricity to the cities in the west of the Netherlands. Motorways and railways were closed off to allow the transportation of the three enormous transformers. And a few temporary bridges were also built using steel tubes supplied by De Boer Staal.

Luxury motor yacht Y706 under construction

September 2009 – To make life on board the motor yacht as pleasant as possible, it has been fitted out with every conceivable convenience. There is a chopper pad, a swimming pool, a cinema and an entertainment area on board. De Boer Staal supplied 600 tons of steel plate and bulb flats (Grade A ship quality) for the hull of this 86-metre-long motor yacht.
